The New York Academy of Sciences introduces research uses for AI alongside questions of accuracy, confidentiality and scholarly judgment.

Thursday, November 5, 2026, 12:30–2:00 PM ET; 90-minute virtual session.
A useful AI summary is not the same thing as a verified literature review. In AI Tools for Literature Review, Writing, and Research Productivity, researchers can examine both the potential uses of these tools and the decisions that remain their own.
The 90-minute virtual session uses short presentations and demonstrations to introduce AI tools for research tasks. The Academy says participants will explore ways to find relevant sources, summarize a research landscape and support writing and discovery.
The program also considers when a tool is appropriate and how to assess what it produces. Source transparency and citation practices are particularly relevant to a literature review: a researcher needs to know what supports a summary before relying on it in scholarly work. Confidentiality, limitations and researcher oversight are also on the agenda.

The AI session opens the Academy’s Publish and Fund Your Research Series, but it can be booked separately. The next session, on December 9, 2026, considers trust and authority in scientific publishing amid changes including AI and open access. A February 25, 2027, session turns to industry funding for research.
The broader series connects research methods with decisions about sharing and supporting the work. Attending live also offers an opportunity to ask questions and engage with instructors; registration includes access to a recording for one year.
