UW-La Crosse Theatre & Dance stages the musical across two weekends, with seven performances from April 23 through May 2, 2027.

Anya’s search for her identity unfolds between the waning Russian Empire and Paris. In this musical, danger and humor share space with romance, hope and the question of where—and with whom—she belongs.
Anya sets out to learn who she is and find a place to belong. The story places that search in a world spanning the Russian Empire and Paris, and combines moments of danger and humor with unexpected love.
Belonging and chosen family are among the musical’s central themes. That focus gives the adventure a personal through-line: Anya’s search for her past is also a search for connection.

Terrence McNally wrote the book; Stephen Flaherty composed the music; and Lynn Ahrens wrote the lyrics. The production’s credited team also includes director Mary Trotter, music director Kathryn Skemp Moran and choreographer Ashley Dobrogosz.
Those credits trace the work from its written story and score to the direction, musical leadership and choreography of UWL’s production.

The performance pattern offers a choice of evening shows or a Sunday matinee on each of the two weekends. The gap between the April 25 and April 29 performances separates the run into two groups.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 23–24 and April 29–May 1, 2027. The Sunday matinees are April 25 and May 2 at 2 p.m. The published schedule gives start times but no running time or end time.
The production is at Toland Theatre, Lowe Center for the Arts, 333 N. 16th Street, La Crosse, WI. Seating is assigned; UWL advises buying tickets together if you want seats with friends or family.

Online sales began October 1, 2026. The box office is in the Lowe Center for the Arts; call 608-785-6696. Its listed hours are Monday through Friday, 1–3 p.m., and one hour before performances during the April 19–May 2 run. UWL’s general policy says in-person and phone sales open on the Monday before a production begins.
The box-office policy lists cash, check, MasterCard and Visa as accepted payment methods, but also says all tickets will be charged to a MasterCard or Visa. Because those statements do not clearly explain whether cash or check can be used, confirm with the box office before relying on either. For phone orders, the policy says tickets are held at the box office and the credit card is charged immediately, even if tickets are not picked up.
