Lambert’s book draws on her mother Annie Kawetschanky’s experiences before and during World War II, including growing up in a German village in Slovakia and later spending time in Berlin.

A German village in Slovakia and later time in Berlin are part of the family history behind Fraulein Anni: One Woman’s Journey through the Hitler Years. On November 8, Hildegard (Dee) Lambert will discuss the book, which is based on her mother Annie Kawetschanky’s experiences.
The event announcement describes Kawetschanky’s experiences before and during World War II, including her childhood in a German village in Slovakia and later time in Berlin. The focus is a family story told through Lambert’s book, rather than a general overview of the period.
For readers drawn to wartime history, that personal focus offers a way into the subject through one named life and the places connected to it.
