A Sarasota workshop combines sun printing and watercolor on a single sheet, with materials and garden admission included in tuition.
All times are local to the venue · America/New York
A sheet of prepared watercolor paper is the starting point for Cyanotype & Watercolor: Painting with the Sun. At Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, participants will make a sun-exposed image using an early photographic process, then add color with paint.
The workshop begins with a composition arranged on pre-prepared watercolor paper with deckled edges. Sunlight creates the cyanotype motif; participants then work back into that image with watercolor. The two stages offer different choices on the same sheet: how to arrange the composition before exposure and where to add paint afterward.
Bianca Clyburn of Art on Fire, LLC is the instructor, and the workshop includes guidance from a professional watercolorist. Selby Gardens says beginners need no previous experience in either medium, and all workshop materials and supplies are included in tuition.

Course registration includes general admission, and Selby Gardens encourages participants to arrive early enough to visit the grounds before class. The Downtown Sarasota campus is a bayfront garden with living collections that include orchids, bromeliads and ferns.
The workshop may use both indoor and outdoor spaces. Check the forecast and bring whatever you need to be comfortable outside; the gardens ask visitors not to pick from their plant collections.
