Dia de los Muertos and Diwali Festival: Art, Ceremony and Marsh Planting
At 10:30 a.m., visitors face an early choice: join a cultural art-session window at Crissy Field Center or take part in Planting as Remembrance at Quartermaster Reach. The planting is a separate activity with advance registration; the festival’s cultural program continues through 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026.
A shared gathering, not a blended observance
The organizers present Día de los Muertos and Diwali as distinct cultural observances, brought together to honor South Asian and Latinx traditions and to offer a learning opportunity. The festival listing names arts and crafts, storytelling, cultural dance, song and fire ceremonies, as well as learning about social and environmental justice issues in both cultures.
Eventbrite’s agenda names face-painting, rangoli and ofrenda activities. Its timed program places Cultural Art Sessions in two windows, 10:30–11:30 a.m. and 12:30–1:30 p.m., with multiple time slots in each. The listing says some activities require additional registration but does not say which ones, so check the activity details before counting on a particular session.

Choose a session—or follow the performances
The timetable offers more than one way to take part: visitors can choose a cultural art session, attend one of the two scheduled fire ceremonies, or build their visit around the performances. The early art window overlaps with the marsh planting, so the two morning activities are not a single combined program.
Duniya Dance and Drum Company performs at noon at Presidio Steps/Field Station Plaza. Founded by Punjabi-American dancer Joti Singh and Guinean musician Bongo Sidibe, the company describes its work as bringing South Asian and West African dance and music together. That background helps place the performers in context; the festival announcement does not specify the repertoire for this set.
The 2:30 p.m. closing performance at Crissy Field Center Courtyard is listed as Mexican guitar and vocal music by Diana Gameros. Her website describes her wider work in connection with her experience as a formerly undocumented immigrant and the development of her musical and political voice. The festival listing does not say whether that history will be part of this performance.

Remembrance takes a different form at Quartermaster Reach
Planting as Remembrance is a separate stewardship activity, not a requirement for joining the festival. Participants will care for a native tidal marsh, where fresh and salt water meet and the landscape shifts with the tides. A short talk at 10:45 a.m. introduces the activity’s remembrance theme; the rest of the session is set aside for planting.
The planting connects the day’s remembrance theme to hands-on care for a particular Presidio landscape, while remaining distinct from the festival’s cultural program. Its separate location, registration and physical demands make it a choice to plan around rather than an add-on between festival sessions.

A day across several Presidio locations
The posted timetable places the welcome at Field Station Plaza, art sessions and fire ceremonies at Crissy Field Center, Duniya Dance and Drum Company at Presidio Steps/Field Station Plaza, and Diana Gameros in the Center courtyard. The morning planting is at Quartermaster Reach and overlaps the first art-session window. As an editorial suggestion—not an official itinerary—visitors focused on the cultural program could choose one art window, catch the midday dance, then consider the later art session or closing performance. The ceremonies are scheduled at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., offering two separate opportunities to attend.
