The Denver Art Museum’s free drawing session takes its cues from an exhibition about performers, costume and cultural influence.

What can a performer’s image suggest to someone drawing? In Drop-In Drawing with Anna Kaye (Online), participants will consider the visuals and ideas of DIVA through conversation, a technique demonstration and their own drawing.
Kaye’s session is participatory rather than a lecture alone: the group will draw and discuss the exhibition, watch a technique demonstration and have an opportunity to show their work at the end. Kaye will offer supportive feedback.
The December event is part of the museum’s quarterly online drawing sessions with Kaye. Her own Denver studio practice includes drawing, painting, video and sculpture inspired by the natural world; she also teaches at the Denver Art Museum and Denver Botanic Gardens.

DIVA, organized by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, looks at how performers have used dress and performance to shape their public presence and influence culture. Its subjects span figures such as opera singer Maria Callas and contemporary stars including Cher and Rihanna.
The exhibition guide traces the word “diva” from its use for exceptional female opera singers in the 1800s to its changing meanings today. The Denver presentation, adapted for an American audience, runs October 4, 2026, through January 31, 2027. Seeing it in person is a separate, ticketed visit; the online drawing session is free.
