Why Paris? A Hood Museum Discussion of 1920s Artists, Nov. 11
“Why Paris?” is the guiding question for a Hood Museum conversation about artistic exchange in the 1920s. Drawing on works from Community and Exile: Artists in Paris, 1910–1939, the program will consider immigrant narratives associated with Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Léonard Foujita and others.
Paris as a point of exchange
The event focuses on the 1920s, while the exhibition that informs it spans 1910–1939. That distinction matters: the conversation is about one decade of artistic exchange, using works from the exhibition as a reference rather than covering the exhibition’s entire period.
The program names Picasso, Stein, Hemingway and Foujita among the people whose immigrant narratives it will highlight. They are subjects for discussion, not additional announced participants.
