A gallery scavenger hunt and stories of Mississippi hauntings open Fall Family Day at Two Mississippi Museums; a separate Día de los Muertos program follows in the afternoon. The free family event takes place Saturday, October 31, 2026.
A Halloween visit through Mississippi history
The morning Trick or Treat program gives families a reason to look around the galleries together: a gallery-guide scavenger hunt is paired with stories of Mississippi hauntings. An archaeology demonstration adds another way to encounter the state’s past, while a costume contest and Monster Mash line dance bring the Halloween theme into the program.
The setting is shared by the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Both opened in December 2017 for the state’s bicentennial, and their exhibits draw on artifacts, photographs, video and interactive displays.

A different afternoon focus
The Día de los Muertos program is presented with the Mississippi Hispanic Association. Families can choose from face painting and crafts, and see a folkloric dance demonstration. It is a distinct afternoon program rather than a continuation of the morning’s Halloween activities.
Visitors interested in both should plan around the 90-minute break between them. The announced schedule does not identify an activity during that interval, so families can also choose whichever session best fits their interests and plans.
