Listening and reading both have a place at Follow the Reader. At Albina Library, children hear a story and practice their developing reading skills with a teen volunteer.
A reading partner for early grades
The program is especially intended for children in kindergarten through second grade. Its combination of a story and practice with a teen volunteer gives families looking for reading support an option that goes beyond listening to a story alone.
The library links to a registration page that asks for information about the child and family. It says it uses that information to help match the child with a volunteer. The program meets weekly; families interested in another visit can check the library’s event listings for dates.
