A Vermont Farm and Food Bill is the starting point for NOFA-VT’s Franklin County Member Organizing Meeting on November 12, 2026. At the Highgate Center gathering, the organization hopes to develop ideas for what such a bill could include, what it would take to achieve it and what changes might be possible along the way.
NOFA-VT frames the discussion around several connected concerns: farmers’ ability to stay on the land and make a decent living, access to health care, care for children and elders, and food for their communities. The proposed bill is an organizing goal, rather than a finished set of provisions described in the meeting announcement.
The group is seeking perspectives from longtime farmers and people looking for land, as well as families, new Vermonters and people who eat the food. Interested nonmembers are welcome; NOFA-VT says it will invite them to join at the meeting.

The Franklin County gathering is part of NOFA-VT’s fall member meetings. The organization connects the current effort to an earlier period when Vermont farmers organized an alternative to federal pressure to expand farms or leave agriculture, helping establish the state’s organic movement.
For this meeting, Guy and family at Choiniere Family Farm are hosting. Organizers plan to provide food to share, and guests can bring something if they wish and it is convenient.
