A tree-shopping trip to the U.S. National Arboretum can be a straightforward greenery errand or, on one Saturday, a chance to browse a holiday market too. The Holiday Tree Sale offers trees and other greenery across ten days, with daytime hours at either end and later hours during the intervening week.
The separately listed Holiday Market on December 5 adds local artisans and food trucks to the visit. It runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the tree sale starts at 11 a.m., so the two overlap for three hours. FONA says registration for the market is coming soon.
The sale continues on Sunday, December 6, but the market is listed only for Saturday. If a tree or greenery is the main reason for going, the other sale dates offer a choice of daytime or later weekday hours.

The sale takes place at a 451-acre public garden and horticultural research facility. Visitors who have time during regular grounds hours can also explore collections such as the Gotelli Conifer Collection or the National Herb Garden; check individual collection information when planning an accessible route.

The sale is listed at the U.S. National Arboretum, 2400 R St NE, Washington, DC 20002. The R Street entrance normally admits cars and pedestrians; use marked lots rather than parking on roadsides or grass.
There is no rail line directly to the Arboretum, though bus stops are nearby. FONA recommends Metro’s Trip Planner for routes and notes a Capital Bikeshare hub outside the R Street entrance. Check with FONA about entry for the sale’s evening hours.
