Home Alone 2: Lost in New York Live in Concert at The Auditorium
Kevin McCallister is meant to be traveling with his family; instead, he lands in New York while they head to Florida. His solo city adventure turns into a chase when the Wet Bandits arrive, giving the score room to move from playful passages toward suspense and action.
A wrong turn, a hotel room and a heist
In Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Kevin gets himself a room at the Plaza Hotel and takes on the city without his family. His plans change when Harry and Marv—the Wet Bandits, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern—show up, recently released from jail and intent on another holiday robbery. Kevin prepares a series of traps for them.
John Williams’ music follows the film’s changes of pace: lighter, whimsical themes sit alongside more dramatic and suspenseful writing. Here, that score is performed live in sync with the movie, so the music accompanies the action on screen rather than appearing as a separate concert set.

A film concert in the Philharmonic’s wider work
The Chicago Philharmonic was founded in 1989 by principals of the Lyric Opera Orchestra. The musician-governed nonprofit draws on Chicago-area performers and describes its work as spanning classical, jazz, pop, outreach and movie concerts. This screening-with-score format sits within that broader range, rather than presenting Williams’ music apart from its film.

The film plays at an 1889 landmark
The Auditorium opened in 1889 and was designed by Adler & Sullivan; its venue profile identifies the theatre as a National Historic Landmark. The same profile lists film-with-orchestra events among the hall’s programming, placing this screening in a venue that presents both concerts and other large-scale performances.
