The summit’s first Vermont edition pairs a dedicated farm-to-school network day with a broader conversation about food in hospitals, colleges and correctional facilities.

Food purchasing, school gardens and classroom learning are all part of Vermont’s approach to connecting children with local food. At the Northeast Farm to Institution Summit, that work becomes a focal point for a regional gathering in Burlington, April 14–16, 2027.
Thursday, April 15, is Vermont Farm to School and Early Childhood Network Day. Organizers invite every summit attendee to join child nutrition professionals, farmers, educators, distributors and community partners for a closer look at how the state connects students with local food.
The range of work goes beyond buying ingredients for a cafeteria. The network also supports connections among classrooms, food service and communities; its resources include seasonal recipes and classroom activities. People involved in early care, school gardens and nutrition education are among those the summit identifies as part of the conversation.
Farm-to-school and early-childhood sessions, panels and field trips are planned across all three days. The individual sessions and field-trip itineraries remain to be announced.

The Vermont partnership is part of a wider agenda that also encompasses hospital, college and correctional food systems. Farmers and food businesses share the summit’s intended audience with food service operators, distributors, educators and advocates—a useful mix for examining the relationships involved in getting regional food into institutions.
The 2027 theme, “Connected Systems, Collective Impact,” puts those relationships alongside supply-chain coordination. Organizers say they received 109 proposals, with frequent topics including student engagement and network building as well as coordination across the supply chain. The proposals are still under review, so they are a guide to what people hope to discuss, not a list of confirmed sessions.
