Northwestern vs. Xavier Women’s Basketball: Nov. 5 at Welsh-Ryan Arena
The maple court at Welsh-Ryan Arena came from Menominee Tribal Enterprises and was built by Connors Sports Floors. It will be the setting for Northwestern’s women’s basketball matchup with Xavier on Nov. 5.
A campus hall with a basketball past
Welsh-Ryan Arena is part of McGaw Memorial Hall, whose construction began in 1951 and was completed in 1953. The basketball arena was renovated in the early 1980s and named for the parents of the Welsh and Ryan families.
A 19-month renovation of the building began after Northwestern’s 2017 men’s basketball regular-season finale. Today, Welsh-Ryan is home to the university’s men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and wrestling programs, as well as university and community events.
