How things are made can be a way into a longer history. At Moundville Archaeological Park, ‘Pum vculvke enliketv tate’: “The Home of Our Ancestors” considers craft, art and ceremonial traditions in relation to communities living today.
Co-curated by Jake Tiger of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, the exhibition challenges the idea that traditions practiced at Moundville during its height disappeared. It presents that legacy as one carried forward by living communities.
The park identifies techniques and material choices alongside ceremonial objects and artistic traditions as part of the exhibition’s focus. For visitors, that framing makes the process of making part of the story, rather than treating objects only as evidence of a distant past.
