Ballet Austin’s “Roses for the Last Dance” Moves From Intimacy to Piaf
The music credits trace a striking change of register: Bach, Gluck and Handel accompany an opening meditation on intimacy; Kitka is the musical source for a middle work about community; Edith Piaf’s music closes the program in a romantic, playful mode.
Touch is the opening subject
Stephen Mills’s “One / the body’s grace” opens the program by looking closely at relationships, emphasizing how physical contact and emotional openness can shape a bond.
The work is identified as an international award-winning piece. Its music is credited to Johann Sebastian Bach, Christoph Willibald Gluck and George Frideric Handel; Christopher McCollum designed the costumes, and Tony Tucci the lighting.

A communal turn in “Renaissance”
Amy Seiwert’s “Renaissance” shifts attention from close personal bonds to shared experience. Its energetic movement suggests fresh starts and collective purpose, while the work draws on Eastern European musical traditions and credits Kitka, an Oakland-based women’s a cappella ensemble, as its music source.
The listing names Kitka as the musical source but does not confirm a live appearance by the ensemble. Kaori Higashiyama designed the costumes; Brian Jones is credited for both set and lighting design.

The title work closes with Piaf
Mills’s “Roses for the Last Dance” closes the program to music credited to Edith Piaf. Its description presents love as vivid and spirited, pairing romance with lightness and openness to what may come—a different emphasis from the opening work’s attention to relationships and emotional openness.
The final work has its own design credits: Michael Raiford designed the set, and Erin Earle Fleming the lighting.

Parking and changing road access
The Palmer Events Center Garage at 900 Barton Springs Road is the Long Center’s main parking option. The directions page lists a $12 cashless rate unless special rates are posted, One Texas Center Garage at $12–$20 for special events, and RiverSouth Garage at $25. Garage fees can change. The venue recommends using the garage’s Barton Springs entrance during construction; it may mean a longer walk but can help reduce congestion.
The Long Center’s current Phase 2 notice says Riverside Drive is fully closed. It says access to Circular Drive or the garage’s Riverside entrance is possible by crossing South First Street on Riverside Drive, or by turning left or right from South First Street and cutting the median; it also says there is no right turn onto Riverside from southbound South Lamar. Recheck the venue’s Know Before You Go guidance closer to the performance because access conditions may change.
Valet is available for most Dell Hall performances, not necessarily every one. The venue lists event-dependent pricing of $25–$50 and says the valet booth accepts cash only. It also lists complimentary garage parking for vehicles with Air Force Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Army Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, Medal of Honor, Legion of Merit Medal, Purple Heart, Pearl Harbor Survivors or Prisoners of War specialty plates.
Transit, walking and cycling
The Long Center lists nearby stops at Vic Mathias/Auditorium Shores Station, South 1st/Riverside, South 1st/Barton Springs and Barton Springs Station. Its directions page lists routes 1, 3, 7, 10, 20, 30, 801 and 803; check the transit provider for current schedules.
For a downtown walking approach, the venue describes going via Cesar Chavez to the First Street pedestrian bridge across Town Lake, then continuing toward the Long Center’s front lawn. Bicycle parking is by the garage, at a rack to the right when approaching from Riverside Drive.
Taxis and rideshares use the loading and unloading zone in Circular Drive. The venue’s map and directions links can calculate a route from your own starting point.
