Selling Produce to Distributors focuses on a link between farms and institutional buyers: the distributor. In the Texas Center for Local Food webinar, two farmers will discuss how they connected with and sold to produce distributors, giving producers a way to consider whether that sales channel fits their own businesses.
Aaron Reeves of Reeves Family Farm and Shakera Raygoza of Terra Preta Farm are scheduled to share their experience with produce distributors. The session is intended to help participants gauge their readiness to enter that market, rather than focus on selling directly to the final institutional buyer.
The examples come from vegetable farming, but the organizers also welcome producers of other local food products. For someone weighing a wholesale route, the useful distinction is the focus on the farmers’ experience of finding and selling to distributors—not a promise of a particular buyer or sales opportunity.

The webinar is the last of three online trainings in the center’s wholesale-readiness series. The earlier sessions address value-added products for small and specialty retailers and direct sales to schools. The school session, for example, looks at a producer’s direct relationship with a school district and at statewide resources.
Each training has its own registration, so signing up for the distributor webinar does not register a participant for the others.
