Saturdays, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM year-round at both locations, rain or shine except during severe weather. Individual listings mention summer hours without specifying them; confirm current hours before a summer visit.
At SFC Farmers’ Markets, choosing where to shop means choosing between a downtown square and a south Austin venue. Sustainable Food Center runs both markets year-round, connecting shoppers with local growers, ranchers and food makers.
Sustainable Food Center describes its markets as producer-only and says staff visit farms and ranches to check sourcing and production practices. Its agricultural vendors grow, raise or wild-harvest food; its value-added producers incorporate local farm-raised goods into finished food or artisan products.
Seasonal produce and specialty foods are central to the mix, while SFC also describes locally made crafts, art and ceramics among its offerings. A useful question for a grower is how to prepare an unfamiliar vegetable: agricultural vendor Shelia W. says educating shoppers about the vegetables she grows is part of her market experience.
The Downtown market has operated in Republic Square since 2003, and the Sunset Valley market at Toney Burger Center since 2010. SFC lists 40 weekly vendors Downtown and 35 at Sunset Valley; those figures are a guide to the markets’ scale, not a roster for a particular Saturday.

Both locations accept Lone Star SNAP. Shoppers with an active SNAP card can use Double Up Food Bucks Texas without a separate sign-up: visit the information booth, use SNAP for eligible purchases or market dollars, and receive a dollar-for-dollar match for additional fruits and vegetables. SFC’s program page lists a match of up to $30 per day, while its market page says up to $30 weekly; ask at the booth for the current limit.
Monthly WIC produce benefits work separately. Bring a WIC EBT card to the booth; SFC says shoppers can triple those benefits at its markets year-round, with a limit of up to $30 per day. Ask staff how that limit is calculated before shopping. Both markets also accept seasonal WIC Vouchers, which are distinct from monthly WIC benefits; check current voucher terms at the booth.
