Follow the bends of San Antonio’s River Walk
The river changes character around every reach. Find your own San Antonio among downtown’s shaded bend, the art on Museum Reach and the living landscape downstream.

Inside this guide
Start with the umbrellas. Along the downtown river bend, their bright circles crowd the water’s edge beneath a canopy of trees. A boat slips past, a bridge closes the view, and the next turn opens another little stage of tables, balconies and people watching people.
Keep going and the river changes its company. Northward, concrete becomes a sculptor’s cave, fish hang beneath a highway and the water arrives at Pearl. Southward, the banks open into a landscape tended for grasses, birds and the river itself. Choosing a stretch is the first good decision to make in San Antonio. You can give one of these places an afternoon without trying to collect the whole river.
