Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in Dallas: Bruce Wood Dance Dallas’ Three-Work Bill
One work begins with a familiar story, another brings a new dance to a Brothers Grimm tale, and a third takes its cues from Mozart’s piano concertos. Bruce Wood Dance Dallas puts all three on the same bill, offering a chance to compare distinct choreographic starting points in one performance.
Bollinger’s Wonderland has a visual team
Joy Bollinger, the company’s resident choreographer and répétiteur, created Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The work premiered in 2025, and a new production and choreography were commissioned that September by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, with Robert Spano as music director. Its Dallas premiere gives local audiences a first look at this production.
The event credits Tommy Bourgeois with costume design and Courtney Ware with digital storytelling. Their named roles add two design perspectives to Bollinger’s choreography, while the listing does not prescribe how visitors should interpret those elements.

A Grimm story becomes Kayser’s world premiere
Noelle Kayser’s Hänsel und Gretel is the bill’s world premiere. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the new work is described as contemporary and athletic—a fresh dance interpretation of a familiar story rather than a retelling promised in any particular form.
Kayser is based in Chicago and is resident choreographer at Open Space, a creative incubator in Portland. The event listing also notes that Newcity Magazine included her in its “50 People Who Really Perform for Chicago.”

Wood’s Schmetterling follows Mozart’s music
Schmetterling, choreographed by company founder Bruce Wood, is set to piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and was first performed in 2004. The event listing emphasizes how Wood translates musical qualities into movement and draws attention to the human character of Mozart’s music.
That earlier dance provides a counterpoint to Kayser’s premiere and Bollinger’s Dallas debut. The range of dates behind the pieces is one way to read the program: a newly made Grimm-inspired work alongside a 2025 creation and a work first presented more than two decades ago.
