Wisconsin’s 12 owl species are the subject of All About Owls, a November 7 class at the UW Arboretum. The session narrows in on the three species that nest in Madison, connecting identification with the birds’ habitats and behavior.
Arboretum naturalist Sylvia Marek will lead the indoor class. Alongside how to identify owls, the discussion covers their calls, courtship, hunting and eating, as well as the places they live.
The session is part of the Arboretum’s wider class program, which ranges from natural history and conservation to the site’s history and the arts. It is a classroom session; the announcement does not promise an owl sighting or an outdoor walk.

Visitors who want to explore independently can use the Arboretum’s trail system, which extends for more than 17 miles. The Visitor Center offers maps and brochures; stay on the trails and leave pets at home, apart from service animals as allowed by law.
