A walk through the Arboretum can be a way to consider more than individual plants or animals. Scenic Stroll takes a broader look at the ecological communities near the UW–Madison Arboretum Visitor Center on Sunday, November 22, 2026.
The gently paced outing may touch on the land, plants, animals and other organisms, as well as ecology and phenology—the timing of seasonal events in nature. The emphasis is on the community around the Visitor Center rather than a promised list of species.
The Arboretum has not announced a specific route or fixed set of topics. Visitors can expect an hour outdoors, but should not count on a particular sighting or destination along the way.

The walk meets within a 1,200-acre Arboretum bordering the southern shore of Lake Wingra. Inside the Visitor Center, a public browsing library offers non-circulating books on subjects including plants, animals, ecosystems and restoration ecology—a useful place to continue exploring after the stroll.
