Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen Play AMFA Nov. 12
Jon Cleary’s AMFA booking is defined by an ensemble built around distinct parts: bass and drums, Hammond organ, percussion, guitar and a three-player horn section. The group is the Absolute Monster Gentlemen, the band Cleary gathered in New Orleans to make The Bywater Sessions.
A record made close to home
The Bywater Sessions took shape in Cleary’s home studio in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. AMFA connects the album to more than 35 years of Cleary’s work in the city’s music scene, making its setting a direct part of this concert’s background.
Cleary co-produced the album with John Porter, whose credits include Roxy Music, The Smiths and Taj Mahal. That production history helps explain the recording behind the booking; it does not indicate that Porter is part of the announced concert lineup.

One band-focused date in a varied season
AMFA’s 2026–27 Concert Series ranges across singer-songwriters, instrumental jazz, bluegrass, roots music and early jazz and blues. Cleary’s date brings a large New Orleans ensemble into that broader season. The museum describes its Performing Arts Theater as an up-close concert space with comfortable seating and sound and lighting systems.

What the concert listing confirms
AMFA ties the performance to The Bywater Sessions, a recording drawn from songs Cleary has long favored as well as newer material. The museum has not announced a song-by-song program for the Little Rock concert.
