Bixler’s career crosses several traditions
Bixler is a New York City-based alto saxophonist, composer, educator and podcaster. Early in his New York career, he toured with the big bands of Lionel Hampton and Toshiko Akiyoshi, then became lead alto saxophonist with the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra.
His contribution to the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Big Band recording Final Night at Birdland earned him a Latin GRAMMY Award. Bixler also directs jazz studies at Bowling Green State University, is an official Selmer and Vandoren artist, and hosts the podcast Liner Notes with David Bixler.
