At UAB’s International Friendsgiving, attendees can back a pie-eating contest champion while supporting Blazers Against Hunger. The November 4 gathering also offers a chance to meet people through a social organized by groups that work with the university’s international community.
The contest is the fundraiser’s centerpiece: UAB invites attendees to choose a champion, with proceeds benefiting Blazers Against Hunger. A donation of at least $5 earns a Golden Ticket, which provides quick entry and five raffle chances; UAB says larger donations bring more chances in the champion’s name.
Music, activities and prizes are also planned. UAB has not announced the contest rules or how to sign up as a contestant, so anyone hoping to compete should check with the organizers.

UAB lists the Global Student Association and International Mentors as the event’s groups; International Mentors describes the annual gathering as a collaboration with International Student and Scholar Services.
The association works to connect international students and scholars with one another and with U.S. students. International Mentors, meanwhile, helps incoming international students learn about UAB, Birmingham and the United States. Friendsgiving brings that interest in campus connections into a seasonal social setting.
