The club traces its beginnings to 1924, when Hal and Mae Sherburne started building the Butterfly Tea Room on five acres in the Town of Turtle. They named it for the yellow and white butterflies in a nearby field. The original tea room had a kitchen and dining room upstairs, with a bar and two more dining rooms below.
