A weekday visit to Dallas Farmers Market can still include a meal or a browse through local food businesses—but The Shed’s farmers market is next door, not inside The Market Building. The indoor hall opens daily; the outdoor pavilion has its own weekend hours and producer mix. Choosing between those two visits is the simplest way to plan a trip.
The Market Building is a 26,000-square-foot indoor food hall with four anchor restaurants, specialty-food and artisanal vendors, local retail, a coffee shop, and seating indoors and on an outdoor patio. It works for a meal, a coffee stop or shopping on any day of the week; hours for individual businesses can differ from the building’s schedule.
The Shed is the outdoor farmers market beside it. Its vendors include farmers with seasonal produce, ranchers selling meat, cheese, eggs and honey, and food makers offering items such as breads and canned goods. If farm products and producer stalls are the reason for your visit, the Shed’s weekend schedule—not the indoor hall’s daily opening—is the one to check.

Hurtado Barbecue shows the restaurant side of The Market’s mix. Founder and pitmaster Brandon Hurtado’s profile connects the business with Central Texas barbecue traditions and describes meat smoked over post oak. It says the brisket is smoked overnight and the jalapeño-cheddar sausage is made in-house.
Those methods help explain the restaurant’s approach, but they are not a promise of what will be available on a particular visit. The restaurant says its menu and daily availability can change; check its current information if you are planning around a specific dish.

Dallas Farmers Market says it has operated continuously since 1941. That date refers to the market, not necessarily the present-day Market Building in its current form. Today, the indoor hall and weekend Shed have distinct roles on the same campus.

The Market Building’s regular hours are 10 a.m.–7 p.m. every day. Restaurant and shop hours vary; some businesses open earlier or stay open later, and anchor restaurants may close earlier on weekdays. Check with a particular business before making a special trip for it.
The organizer lists Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day as closed and New Year’s Day as reduced hours. Holiday schedules can differ from the usual routine.

The Shed is closed Monday through Friday. It is open Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., rain or shine. Its seasonal produce, meats, dairy, eggs, honey and other producer-made foods are separate from the indoor hall’s offerings.
For cut flowers, bread and specialty produce, the organizer recommends Saturday morning before 10 as a time for stronger selection. It also notes that some popular goods can sell out. The Shed is a covered outdoor pavilion and operates year-round, subject to holiday schedules.

Ready-to-eat foods and drinks are excluded, as are nonfood goods such as flowers, candles, soaps and crafts, alcohol, and food meant to be consumed on site. The exclusions also cover items such as to-go coffee or tea and open pastries.
To use benefits, start at the information booth at the front of The Shed for a shopping list and instructions. Participating vendors display SNAP signs; the organizer’s instructions say to record eligible items and prices, return to the booth to pay with an EBT card, then collect purchases from the vendors. The organizer also lists Double Up Food Bucks; ask at the booth for current program terms.
