Trevor Panczak’s Don Williams tribute brings a personal history to Belt
A Gibson L5 belonging to Don Williams became part of the story behind Trevor Panczak’s tribute recording: Williams’s son sent the guitar to Nashville while Panczak was recording with Williams’s band. The Belt Performing Arts Center lists Panczak and his band presenting Williams’s music, but does not announce a specific set list.
From early guitar songs to a final tour
Panczak says some of the first songs he learned on guitar were Don Williams songs. In 2013, he opened for Williams on the singer’s final Canadian tour—a later chapter in a connection that began with the music itself.
Panczak subsequently recorded a tribute album with Williams’s band at Sound Emporium, a Nashville studio where Williams had recorded many of his hits. The setting tied the project to Williams’s own recording history, rather than making it simply a collection of songs by a familiar country artist.

The instrument that joined the sessions
Panczak recounts asking Williams’s son, Tim, whether he could send Williams’s trademark hat and guitar to the studio. The hat was at the Country Music Hall of Fame, but Tim sent the guitar: Williams’s Gibson L5 stood in Studio A throughout the recording sessions.
Panczak also says he received Williams’s last set list after the sessions from Anna Jaap, widow of Williams’s road manager, Gus Laux. These details belong to the recording project’s history; they do not establish that the guitar, hat or set list will be at the Belt performances.

A broad catalog, not a promised playlist
Panczak describes his wider tribute project as drawing on familiar interpretations as well as new readings and personal stories connected to Williams and the songs. His account places the material across Williams’s career and cites 45 top-10 hits and 17 No. 1 songs as a measure of the catalog’s reach.
The venue’s season listing confirms a Williams tribute with storytelling, but it does not name songs or specific stories for Belt. The two performances are listed with the same billing: Panczak and his band presenting Don Williams’s music.
