A missing object, an unexplained sound and a flickering light are enough to unsettle Bella Manningham. Her husband’s insistence that nothing is wrong deepens the uncertainty in Angel Street (Gaslight), Patrick Hamilton’s Victorian-set psychological thriller.
The play’s suspense turns on the distance between what Bella notices in her home and what Mr. Manningham tells her to believe. The disturbances are mysteries in their own right, but they also become instruments of manipulation and control.
Gracie Benson plays Mrs. Manningham and Mark Neufang plays Mr. Manningham in the Racine Theatre Guild production, directed by Michael Clickner. Melissa Tolner plays Elizabeth, Elizabeth Olson plays Nancy and Anthony Lazalde plays Rough.
