At ArBOOretum, Halloween takes shape around Cylburn Arboretum’s garden paths and historic mansion rather than a candy haul. The family-focused event returns October 29 and 30, 2026, with a choice of guided hikes and activities on the grounds.
A choice of light or dark
Each evening offers two guided night hikes. Cylburn Arboretum Friends describes the earlier walk as still light and a good fit for young families; the later one is in the dark. Neither permits strollers, so families with younger children should plan for that before choosing a walk.
The spooky nature trail is another part of the program, while seasonal crafts, games and free face painting offer activities away from the hikes.

Around the mansion
The decorated Cylburn Mansion provides a place for photos, and the Nature Education Center opens for special evening hours. Every visitor receives a glowstick. The event is candy-free: the organizer says the rule helps keep wrappers off the grounds.
For food, Cylburn Arboretum Friends lists Capt’n Crabby, Royal Sauce and Mexican on the Run for both evenings, along with snacks and drinks from the organization.

Buildings and trails
Paved paths provide access to the buildings. The Nature Education Center has accessible entrances and restrooms and is open during the event from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Strollers are not permitted on the night hikes.

No. The organizer asks visitors not to bring strollers on either guided hike.

No. ArBOOretum is candy-free to help prevent wrappers from littering the grounds. Each visitor receives a glowstick.
