Kinusaiga builds an image by tucking fabric into a pre-carved design instead of sewing it. At the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, that process becomes a hands-on way to explore color, pattern and texture alongside the museum’s Art Nouveau season.
Participants will layer and tuck colorful fabrics into a pre-carved design, experimenting with how pattern and texture work together. The class listing describes the goal as a one-of-a-kind artwork; no needle or thread is required, and supplies are provided.
The museum presents kinusaiga as a Japanese art form. OKCMOA describes its art classes as suited to a range of experience, from seasoned artists to curious beginners, while this particular class is designed for adults ages 18 and older.

The class takes its visual cue from The Triumph of Nature: Art Nouveau from the Chrysler Museum of Art, on view at OKCMOA from October 31, 2026, through January 24, 2027. The exhibition brings together 127 works, including furniture, jewelry, prints and paintings.
Its five sections move through Japonisme; Siegfried Bing and the Maison de l’Art Nouveau; École de Nancy; The Triumph of Nature; and From Nouveau to Deco: The Triumph of Industry. Works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, Gustav Klimt, Alphonse Mucha and Aubrey Beardsley are among those featured. That exhibition gives the workshop a design reference for its experiments with decorative pattern and color; the class listing describes making an artwork inspired by the show.
