Max McLean’s portrait of C.S. Lewis moves between the writer’s religious convictions and the work that brought them to readers and listeners. C.S. Lewis On Stage: Further Up & Further In comes to Dallas’s Wyly Theatre for three performances on October 31 and November 1, 2026.
Using Lewis’s own words alongside multimedia, McLean examines what led Lewis to believe in the divinity of Christ. The show also considers his BBC wartime talks, which reached a large audience and became Mere Christianity.
The selection extends to fiction, asking how Hitler influenced The Screwtape Letters and how Lewis’s thinking about prayer, heaven and Christ’s Second Coming informed The Chronicles of Narnia. Rather than staging a single book, the performance brings several parts of his work into conversation with his Christian beliefs.
