After 16 years apart, Lil and her brother Big meet again with a shared interest but an uneven footing: she is preparing to fight, while he is already established in the local MMA scene. In The Monsters, Lil’s attempt to earn his respect becomes a way into the siblings’ difficult past.
Lil has to work on her stance and strikes as she prepares to enter the ring. She also has a stubborn streak to contend with, and winning Big’s respect is bound up with more than fighting technique.
