Evenings for Educators: L.A. Stories at LACMA’s David Geffen Galleries
A gallery visit can follow an educator’s lead or take a route shaped by the visitor. That choice is central to LACMA’s January Evenings for Educators: L.A. Stories, a program that pairs looking at local artists in the collection with a lecture, campus workshops and tours, and dinner.
A collection focus, with two ways to explore
The program invites educators to revisit familiar works and find new ones by local artists in LACMA’s collection. That focus is set in the David Geffen Galleries, which opened in 2026 as the new home of the museum’s permanent collection.
Participants may join a gallery educator or use self-guided tour materials to choose their own path. The listing describes the theme broadly; it does not identify particular artists or artworks for this edition.

Designed to connect art with teaching
LACMA presents Evenings for Educators as professional development, with hands-on art activities that teachers can adapt for classroom use. The series overview describes its programs as standards-aligned and says they include curricular resources for arts integration, supporting student creativity, critical thinking and interdisciplinary learning.
Those are series-level aims, not a description of the specific January materials. The event listing confirms workshops but does not say what participants will make or which resources will accompany this session.

Gallery time on both sides of the program
The evening moves between several campus spaces rather than staying in the galleries: gallery exploration opens and closes the agenda, with a lecture in the Steve Tisch Theatre, a combined hour for workshops and tours around campus, and dinner on W.M. Keck Plaza in between. That arrangement gives attendees a return to the collection after the hands-on and tour portion. The schedule is rendered separately; the event listing does not name the lecturer, workshop leaders, tour routes or individual activities.
