On December 11 and 12, MOCA invites four Los Angeles-based artists to make new, in-process movement work in response to a building once used to store police cars.

All times are local to the venue · America/Los Angeles
Performances begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11, and Saturday, December 12, 2026. Ticket listings show each session ending at 8:30 p.m. A cash bar opens 30 minutes before each performance for guests 21 and over.
The Geffen Contemporary’s history is part of the prompt for Figuring Space. MOCA asks four artists to explore the architecture and context of a former police-car warehouse through movement, turning the building’s change of purpose into a subject for the work.
The Geffen Contemporary stands in Little Tokyo’s Historic District. Frank Gehry renovated the former police-car warehouse, which opened in 1983 as the Temporary Contemporary. Its shift from storage facility to art museum gives the performance a specific setting: the artists are asked to engage with the building, not simply perform inside it.
Figuring Space is part of Wonmi’s WAREHOUSE Programs, MOCA’s platform for live art across artistic forms. The series has presented work in dialogue with the site; this edition makes movement its stated point of departure.

AMMA is the choreographic practice of Alexsa Durrans and Miles Brenninkmeijer, established in 2018. Their earlier dances have taken inspiration from movement in arena concerts, halftime shows and synchronized swimming. Those references help describe the duo’s broader interests; MOCA has not said they will appear in this work.
MOCA connects Gurmukhi Desai Bevli’s dance-making to her family history as a descendant of refugees from the 1947 Partition of India and Pakistan. Her practice considers migration, memory and histories that cannot be directly recalled. The museum’s biography also identifies stillness, silence and voice as elements of her work, but does not specify how they figure in this performance.
jeremy de’jon guyton works across performance, writing and archiving. His creative research brings together devised theater, spoken and written text, media, and social and club movement languages. He also founded and serves as legacy steward of a.l.t. ^home, a creative residency and living cultural archive in his family home in South Los Angeles.
Mamie Green choreographs and directs VOLTA, an interdisciplinary performance project. Her work has been presented at Los Angeles venues including LACMA, the Skirball Cultural Center and the MAK Center at the Schindler House, as well as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and MAXXI National Museum. These credits offer context for her practice, not a preview of her contribution to Figuring Space.
