Make forged copper napkin rings with Danielle Brannigan in Pittsburgh
A napkin ring is a small project with room to learn several stages of metalworking. At Forged Copper Napkin Rings with Danielle Brannigan, participants will heat, hammer and form copper into a set of their own.
A practical introduction to forging
The three-hour workshop focuses on safe handling as participants learn the basics of shaping copper. The rings offer a concrete use for those techniques: they can become part of a table setting or be given as a gift.
No previous metalworking experience is required. The class is hands-on, and all studio materials are included in the required materials fee.

From jewelry to sculpture
Brannigan is a Pittsburgh-based silversmith, blacksmith and educator whose work spans jewelry, sculpture, fabrication and welding. She has a particular affinity for copper and steel.
Her practice also includes an interest in reclaimed steel and recycled materials, as well as experiments with enameling steel. Those explorations are part of her wider work, rather than techniques announced for the napkin-ring class.

Butler Street
The workshop is at Contemporary Craft’s Raphael Building, 5645 Butler Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201, not the nearby Timmons Studios. The Raphael Building’s main entrance is accessible.
Contemporary Craft lists public transit routes 87, 91 and 93. It also lists street parking on Butler and 57th streets and an accessible parking space in the front lot; call ahead about that space because the lot has limited room.
