Leading with AI: Influence brings workplace persuasion practice to 16 Tech
A good workplace idea may depend on people who do not report to you. Leading with AI: Influence takes that problem into the classroom, using generative AI to help participants prepare messages, consider stakeholders and rehearse difficult conversations. The in-person session is November 5, 2026, at 16 Tech in Indianapolis.
An audience before an argument
Kelley frames influence as a leadership skill for situations where direct authority is not enough. Its guided exercises begin with identifying the people involved, what motivates them and how to approach them credibly. Participants also use AI to draft and refine communications for different audiences and channels.
The course moves beyond a written message to the conversation around it: AI-supported simulations are intended to help participants practice responding to resistance and testing possible scenarios. Evidence, transparency and timing are part of the curriculum, as are privacy controls and checks for bias.

A challenge to take back to work
Kelley describes the course as particularly suited to mid- and senior-level managers and executives who work through collaboration and persuasion. The classroom day combines hands-on exercises with peer discussion; a later instructor-led online clinic gives the group time to consider use cases.
The optional Action Learning Project lets participants apply course concepts to an organizational challenge of their own. Those who complete the project earn a digital badge. Kelley lists Trent Deckard and Anna Deeds as instructors; both teach business communication and coach executive education participants. Deckard’s specialties include persuasion and rhetoric, while Deeds’ include influential communication and storytelling with data.
