Science Studio for Homeschoolers: From Soil to Sculpture
The sequence is the point: children first examine soil components, then use clay for a sculpture. Denver Botanic Gardens’ Science Studio brings that investigation and art-making together in a guided classroom session for families with children ages 7–12.
Start with soil, finish with clay
The session begins with a closer look at what soil contains and moves into sculpting with clay. The making is tied to the investigation: the Gardens describes Science Studio as a family classroom program where hands-on exploration of a natural or scientific concept leads into art-making with materials related to the theme.
For this edition, the listed activity is specific but open-ended: explore soil components, then create a clay sculpture. The event description does not prescribe a particular sculpture or explain which soil components participants will examine.
