See It Loud premieres at MICA, connecting Globe Poster’s history to a working press
Globe Poster’s fluorescent colors and oversized lettering advertised performers from James Brown to Tupac. At the world premiere of See It Loud: The Globe Poster Story, a film about the Baltimore print shop leads into an evening with its surviving work and the people preserving its legacy.
The voices behind the print
Filmmakers John Lewis and Rei Perri tell Globe’s story through interviews with artists who commissioned posters, the printers who made them and people continuing the shop’s legacy at Maryland Institute College of Art. Interview subjects include Bobby Rush, John Waters, Chuck Brown and Ellen Lupton; they are featured in the film, not announced as live guests.
The approximately one-hour screening is followed by an invitation to view Globe Posters for the People in MICA’s Pinkard Gallery. Visitors can also shop original posters from the Cicero Archives, making the evening a chance to move from the documentary’s accounts to examples of Globe’s work.

Two ways the work survives
Globe stopped production in 2010. After Baltimore residents and MICA students rallied support, the college acquired the Globe Collection in 2011. Its wood type, printing blocks and tools now serve as teaching materials and underpin a working press that makes new posters inspired by the shop’s style.
The posters offered for sale come from a separate archive kept by former Globe owners Bob and Frank Cicero, covering 1988–2011. The selection spans subjects including R&B, soul, go-go, gospel, carnivals and sports. A portion of each poster sale supports the Globe Collection and Press at MICA; buying one is optional.

A collector’s earlier start
The $100 Globe Super Fan ticket adds a reception with Lewis, Perri and Bob Cicero, as well as early poster shopping, reserved screening seating and a commemorative poster. Guests can also bid on a poster-printing workshop with Cicero; the workshop is an auction opportunity, not an included class.
The reception takes place in MICA’s Main Building, a different building from the Brown Center screening. Light fare, beer and wine are planned.
