Dinner With Friends: Donald Margulies’ staged reading at The Pete
Beth and Tom’s decision to divorce becomes a test for their friends Karen and Gabe, whose own marriage is suddenly harder to take for granted. That shared history is the center of Dinner With Friends, which Middle Sibling Productions brings to The Pete at The Flea Theater for a staged reading on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026.
A change in one marriage reaches another
The play follows two longtime-connected couples: Karen and Gabe, and Beth and Tom. When Beth and Tom announce their divorce and begin new lives, the change prompts Karen and Gabe to confront the unsettled nature of their own relationship.
The premise puts friendship alongside marriage: the decision belongs to one couple, but its consequences reach people who have built their lives in close relation to them.

This time, the group is in the audience
The New York City Play Reading Group’s regular Meetup Readings are free, public and unrehearsed; members take turns as readers and audience. This performance is a different format. Professional actors will present the play, and attendees will watch rather than take acting roles.
That distinction is useful for people who know the group through its participatory readings: this is a separately ticketed staged reading, presented by Middle Sibling Productions.
