Les Arts Florissants: The Magic of Monteverdi at Spaulding Auditorium
William Christie leads the continuo from the harpsichord, while Paul Agnew directs and sings with the vocal ensemble, joined by singers the Hop describes as rising stars of the next generation. Their distinct roles give Les Arts Florissants: The Magic of Monteverdi a clear onstage focus.
A return with a Dartmouth origin
The Hop traces Christie’s career to Dartmouth, where he was a professor of music, and describes this performance as his return. That history gives the Hanover date a connection to the place where his artistic path began.

A partnership with history
Christie and Agnew reunite for the first time since Les Arts Florissants’ 40th-anniversary celebrations in 2019, according to the Hop’s event listing. Agnew’s dual work as director and singer is part of the concert’s setup, not just a credit on the bill.
