The Fleet Science Center’s November program puts the cultural meaning of looking at the sky alongside its scientific importance. Two Wednesday evening sessions and a separate Sunday Weekend Edition share that broad theme.

Wednesday, November 4, 2026: 7:00–8:00 p.m. and 8:15–9:15 p.m. Sunday Weekend Edition: November 8, 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Theater doors open approximately 10 minutes before showtime; late entry is not allowed after the event begins. Optional outdoor telescope viewing is weather permitting; its exact time is not stated.
The November theme for The Sky Tonight asks audiences to consider the ways people understand the universe, treating astronomy as a subject with cultural as well as scientific significance. The Fleet Science Center has scheduled the program three times: twice on Wednesday evening and once as a Sunday Weekend Edition.
The November program’s premise is wide-ranging rather than tied to a named planet, constellation or cultural tradition. Its focus is the place sky observation holds in human life and in scientific study. Visitors can expect that framing, but the event listing does not promise particular examples or a catalogue of skywatching traditions.
The Sky Tonight is the Fleet’s live astronomy series, led by Resident Astronomer Lisa Will. The Fleet does not identify who will present this particular November edition. Across the series, programs can range from seasonal constellations and planetary motion to recent space discoveries; no specific celestial subject is announced for this one.

The two Wednesday, November 4 showings are one-hour sessions in the Giant Dome Theater, with a 15-minute gap between them. The Sunday, November 8 Weekend Edition has the same Astronomy around the World theme, but is a separate late-morning session—not a continuation of Wednesday’s program.
That gives visitors a choice between two evening start times and a Sunday morning. The Fleet’s general series schedule places its regular showings on the first Wednesday and Weekend Edition on the second Sunday of the month; the November page lists these particular dates and times.

For the monthly Wednesday show, the Fleet also describes an outdoor observing opportunity with San Diego Astronomy Association partners on the Prado, near Bea Evenson Fountain. Visitors may look through different telescopes if the weather allows.
The Fleet does not give a specific time for the outdoor viewing. Treat it as an optional addition rather than a timed part of the planetarium session or a guaranteed activity.
