A one-hour docent-led visit takes up six works in the David Geffen Galleries, using visual and thematic links across periods and geography as its frame.

An Indonesian sarong dated around 1910 and Andreas Gursky’s photographic series Ocean I−VI (2009–10) mark the tour’s range. On Tuesday, November 10, a docent will lead visitors through six works in LACMA’s Indian Ocean galleries, one of four sections in the David Geffen Galleries.
LACMA presents the Indian Ocean galleries as a place to consider visual and thematic connections across time and geography. The tour’s two named examples make that approach concrete: a textile object from about 1910 and a photographic series made nearly a century later.
That span suggests a visit organized around looking for relationships among works, rather than staying within one period or medium. The event listing names the sarong and Gursky’s series, but not the other four works, so visitors can anticipate the tour’s broad frame without having a complete object list in advance.

The tour runs for one hour and is volunteer-led. LACMA cautions that volunteer tours can be canceled and advises visitors to ask a museum team member on the day for the latest information.

The announced examples pair an Indonesian sarong (c. 1910) with Andreas Gursky’s photographic series Ocean I−VI (2009–10), illustrating the tour’s cross-period, cross-geography focus. The event listing does not name the other four works.
The tour meets in the Indian Ocean galleries of LACMA’s David Geffen Galleries, at 5905 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036. LACMA lists Tuesday museum hours as 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
