Sunday, November 29, 2026, 12:00–12:30. This is a 30-minute volunteer-led tour and may be canceled; ask LACMA staff on the day for current details.
A site-specific Sol LeWitt wall drawing sits within LACMA’s modern-art holdings alongside German Expressionist works and concentrations of Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti. The Nov. 29 In Focus visit is a short docent-led introduction to galleries that span more than one movement and collection.
LACMA describes its Modern Art collection as primarily European and American art from 1900 to the 1960s, with examples also drawn from its American and Latin American collections. Several galleries focus on the Janice and Henri Lazarof Collection, including concentrations of work by Picasso and Alberto Giacometti; other galleries present the museum’s German Expressionist paintings, sculpture and works on paper.
That range makes the tour a useful choice for visitors looking for a broad orientation rather than a single-artist focus. The collection’s different sections offer several ways into modern art, but the tour listing does not specify which galleries or artworks the docent will cover.

The Modern Art presentation includes Michael McMillen’s immersive environment Central Meridian (The Garage) (1981). LACMA also names works by Jay DeFeo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Maren Hassinger, Ed Kienholz, Jacob Lawrence, René Magritte, Matta, Diego Rivera and Anne Truitt.
Other galleries highlight the museum’s Pop, Minimal and Conceptual holdings, including a site-specific Sol LeWitt wall drawing. LACMA also notes recent acquisitions by Max Ernst, Claire Falkenstein, Meret Oppenheim and Alice Rahon. These works and artists convey the collection’s range; they are not a promised itinerary for this tour.
