At Kerry Hall’s youth theatre-singing class, breath, body and vocal tone are tools for telling a story. Students work on healthy vocal habits alongside the expressive choices that make singing part of acting.
The class starts with practical foundations: coordinating breath and body, making sound without strain, and developing pitch and tone. Students also work on bringing emotional intention into vocal delivery, connecting the mechanics of singing to the meaning of a song.
Gemma Balinbin is the teaching artist. Her wider work includes opera and arts education; STG credits her with contributing to programs including Seattle Opera’s Teen Vocal Studio and Youth Opera Project.
