Artist Ebony G. Patterson and curator Miranda Lash have already shared a major curatorial project: they were co-artistic directors of Prospect.6, the New Orleans triennial. On February 2, 2027, they meet at the Denver Art Museum for a Logan Lecture conversation about Patterson’s art and their collaborative approach to curating.
Patterson uses both actual and imagined gardens to examine power and the divisions of race, gender and class. The garden is a useful subject for that inquiry: it is a natural setting shaped by human decisions, including decisions about boundaries.
Her assemblages can combine silk flowers, crocheted leaves and jeweled objects in installations that occupy architectural space. Those elaborate materials are part of a practice that also addresses difficult social realities and the legacies of postcolonial spaces.
Trained initially as a painter, Patterson works across tapestry, photography, video, sculpture, drawing and installation. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she lives and works in Kingston and Chicago; she received the High Museum of Art’s David C. Driskell Prize in 2023.

Lash is the Ellen Bruss Chief Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. Her previous role alongside Patterson at Prospect.6 gives the announced discussion a second focus beyond the artist’s individual work: how the two have worked together as curators.
The event is a conversation, not an announced exhibition. It is part of the museum’s 2026–27 Logan Lecture Series, which has hosted talks by more than 140 contemporary artists since 2007.
