Composition, color balance and viewfinder use put the focus on choices made while looking and framing—not just on taking a quick picture. In the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts’ Phone Photography Workshop, participants photograph art on view with professional photographer Margo Duvall.
The workshop brings camera-phone photography into the AMFA Galleries. Its announced subjects are composition, color balance and how to use the viewfinder: framing the image, considering how color appears in it and working with the phone’s view as a guide.
That combination ties phone technique to looking at the artwork in front of you. The event description identifies no particular works or separate assignments, so the confirmed plan is a gallery session built around those three skills. Bring a camera phone.

AMFA’s general policy permits personal, noncommercial photos made with a phone or small camera in public areas and permanent collection galleries. Flash, tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are not allowed, and photography must not interfere with other visitors. The museum may also restrict photography in an area at any time, so the workshop is not a guarantee that every artwork or gallery can be photographed.
There are limits on what can be done with pictures made on site, too: AMFA says they may not be published, sold, copied or distributed, or used for commercial purposes. If you are unsure whether a photo is permitted, ask Guest Services or a security officer.
