Quang Ho left Vietnam as a child during the war. Decades later, the painter returned to confront his past and begin new work—a journey at the center of Searching for Truth. The film screens at the Denver Art Museum on February 6, 2027, with Ho and filmmaker Joe Hawkins joining a conversation afterward.
Searching for Truth follows Ho back to the country of his birth, where he begins a new series of paintings while reckoning with his past. He had fled Vietnam during the war as a child and later became responsible for his siblings’ care when their mother died. The new work draws on that history and its enduring emotional weight.
The film connects that return to Ho’s life as an artist, making the screening a chance to consider how personal history can inform new work rather than treating his journey as a separate chapter from his painting.

The discussion brings together the artist whose journey the film follows and Hawkins, the filmmaker. They are scheduled to talk about the film and the artistic journey it captures, giving the audience a chance to hear from both after the screening.
