A small box lid gives first-time weavers a purpose for learning the basics at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. In the Tapestry Weaving Workshop, participants practice preparing a loom as well as weaving a colorful design for the box.
From loom setup to box lid
The project begins with more than making a pattern: students learn to set up a loom and practice warping, the preparation of the foundation threads for weaving. The planned result is a simple tapestry design for the lid of a small wooden keepsake box.
No previous weaving experience is necessary, and AMFA lists the workshop in its Adults category. For someone curious about how a woven piece starts, the class offers a chance to try the preparation as well as work toward a finished object.

A short introduction at Windgate
The sold-out session is one of the short-form workshops offered by Windgate Art School, alongside its broader studio instruction in subjects including ceramics, glass and woodworking. Its one-day format is a way to try weaving without enrolling in a multiweek course.
