The Skin I Live In opens Four by Almodóvar at OKCMOA
A surgeon’s pursuit of burn-resistant skin becomes a story about control over another person’s body in The Skin I Live In. The film opens the Oklahoma City Museum of Art’s Four by Almodóvar series on November 12, 2026.
Grief, science and confinement
Antonio Banderas plays Dr. Robert Ledgard, a plastic surgeon haunted by his wife’s death. His research involves Vera, played by Elena Anaya, whom he holds prisoner; Marisa Paredes plays a servant in his household. The setup places questions of identity and transformation inside a body-horror story.
Almodóvar’s film gradually reveals how Ledgard arrived at this situation, with a score by his frequent collaborator Alberto Iglesias. It is a dark opening choice for a series that also includes the director’s melodramas and comedies.

A director across genres
The later films are separate screenings. All About My Mother follows a grieving nurse, played by Cecilia Roth, as she searches for her son’s father in Barcelona and finds a new circle of relationships. The Oscar-winning drama draws on classic melodramas including All About Eve and A Streetcar Named Desire.
Volver pairs Penélope Cruz with Carmen Maura in a comedy-drama connected to La Mancha, where Almodóvar grew up. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown offers another contrast: Maura plays a television actress dealing with a breakup in a screwball melodrama that also features Banderas and Rossy de Palma.
